Not what was pictured.
The color was much darker than the picture. It was nearly dark brown vs the light mustard yellow that’s pictured. The coat was also way too big.

Poor quality
Recently just about all cloths products LL Bean sells have dropped in quality. The material they are made out of is different. They are no longer roomy. It’s a shame because you used to be able too count on Bean quality. Not so anymore.

Great coat, but I wish you had used a zipper closure instead of buttons.

Durable, great field jacket
Excellent field coat for layering or wearing with a t-shirt underneath when the seasons are changing. Love the flannel lining and soft, yet durable exterior. The oil on the exterior is not excessive yet is still acting as a barrier. Great pockets and functionality. Runs slightly large so size down.

The cut works but craftsmanship is lacking
I got the black one. It fits well with an extra layer. However some of the stitching is shoddy and a couple buttons are already coming unthreading and coming loose. It could also use another inside pocket. Overall I enjoy wearing it but the poor craftsmanship doesn’t justify the price tag.

Handsome jacket
I bought this jacket for my son who is a freshman in college. He loves it and it looks so handsome with jeans and a flannel shirt.

Good…. But unfortunately not great.
Nice fit throughout the body. Sleeves are too long, but Medium would have been snug around torso. I wish the zippered pocket was at least large enough for my cellphone. Hand warming pockets are functional. Also the flapped pockets are useful.

Jacket’s color not as advertised
The color of the field jacket I received is quite a bit darker than the color of the field jacket in the marketing photo. LLBean has, not for the first time in my experience, shipped an item that differs markedly in color from its advertisement. This seems to be a problem of, at the very least, quality control sorely in need of improvement.

Great choice for my hubby!
I chose this coat for my husbands birthday gift. He’s quite picky about coats but I had a hunch he’d like this one. He loves this coat. Fits well, is a good weight & so functional with all the pockets. If I do say so myself, he looks quite handsome in it, too. It’s just starting to get colder & the jacket does the trick.

LL Bean still makes the best Barn Jacket
My husband loved this jacket! We looked everywhere last year, nothing. He wanted one with the lining inside and that’s just what this barn jacket offered! The outside material appears to be water repellent, bonus.

Nostalgia almost got me
My mother bought me the original Barn Coat for me when I was 13 way back in the year 2000 of I remember correctly. It was amazing. Mine is still in mint condition and so it's my mother's female version. I also have the field jacket she got for the Fall that same year. She got me Medium in both and I definitely had to grow into them both. The quality was so much better back then. This is a throw back jacket but the silky material instead of the sturdy clothe that they used in the original just doesn't feel as quality and nice as the original. It's just ok in my opinion. The original price back then was like $100-$120 this jacket is nearly $300 and heat isn't worth the price tag. Nostalgia got me to order it but the mature me decided the worth wasn't there and it got sent back. For me LL Bean used to be "THE" brand when I was younger but I've read so many terrible things about the company and how it's just went downhill and it's honestly sad.

Classic legacy coat
Purchased a men's style because it was longer than the women's; my style preference. Great field coat--love the rust/ orange color...a little different. The quality is outstanding. Would have loved leather buttons, but can always change those. Generously cut to accommodate a sweater for additional warmth. A true classic.

Superior Field Coat
I have been wearing similar coats for many years. This LLBean Field Coat is superior to all the other coats I’ve worn. The fabric is top notch and the construction is solid. I would definitely buy this coat again and I recommend this coat and L L Bean’s great service to everyone.

Was it the Man or the Field Coat?
When I met my future husband in 1970, he was wearing a Field Coat and I was instantly attracted to both. Nostalgia prompted me to surprise my husband with the purchase of this coat, and he was delighted with the look, fit and comfort. I was delighted to see to that he looked just as handsome wearing it as he did 54 years ago!

Solid celebration of a classic
I have always loved the classic field coat but could never get the sizing right. This iteration solves that for sure, with a slightly fitted cut and the biswing shoulders it's a great fit. My only critiques would be that the color is much darker in-person than online (the khaki), the pockets are not lined and the waxed canvas is very cold when it's cold out. Lastly, the sleeve lining easily creeps out when the cuffs are turned up (which I do as they are a tad long and I like the look of the cord lining).

Well designed and comfortable coat!
I was a little worried buying this without trying it on, but I had nothing to worry about. It fit perfectly and is a great coat for Spring and Fall. You can combine with a sweater or sweatshirt which helps make this a very comfortable coat to where. The wax exterior does a great job at repelling water.

Terrible…
I have shopped with Bean since 78’ this so called field coat has no resemblance to the original. I was duped into buying the 1924 edition hoping it would be faithful.

Waxed cotton
Returned item because it is waxed cotton which is different then fabric in LLbean traditional field coat. Also cut is a little shorter. Good looking jacket but not what I was looking for.

Best quality and fitting jacket I own. Not sure what else to say. I’m 6’2” and 200lbs, athletic build. Bought the large regular and it fits very well with room for a layer.

Underdelivered
First I have to say I am a big llbean fan. I really wanted to like this coat. I was looking for a nice fall style coat. I personally did not care for the style of this coat in person, If I had a local store to see this coat in personally, I probably would not have made my purchase. I feel the coat is underdeveloped and overpriced. I know this is a 100 year anniversary item. However, for the cost of over $200 the quality is not there. The outer waxed cotton material feels thick enough that it won't tear easily. The saddle color is darker than in the photos which was a little off putting for me, a more brownish/yellow color than tan. The front pockets are unlined and the front two flap closure pockets have no securement system so anything you put in them has a risk of falling out. The pockets that do have zippers are too small for cellphones. I am 5'10 195lbs and the medium fit me well, it did not feel big or blousy in the body, no issues with the coat length, however sleeves were a bit long. I love the chamois pattern in the body of the coat. I have the same pattern in their llbean chamois shirt. However, it only lines the body. The sleeves are nylon which I am not a fan of. I wish more manufactures would move away from cheap feeling nylon in the sleeves. From an overall perspective I had higher hopes for the jacket. I feel with this jacket I am paying more for the name and the "heritage" of the coat. I do believe if llbean made some tweaks on future jackets and added some more modern style such as a front zipper instead of just buttons, better pocket securement, and line the sleeves with better material I would have felt better about my purchase. I just cannot justify paying over $200 for this product at this quality. I ended up returning the coat.
