Built For a Commando
This sweater has origins dating back to a time when men were fit and in shape, and its cut reflects that. It’s designed for men whose chest measurement exceeds their waist.
L.L. Bean, don't ever change the fit of this sweater. It's supposed to be made for the Commando. Your other sweaters have ample space for today's common man.
Hopefully it holds up to outdoor use.
I gave it four stars because it's expensive.

Nice but unreasonably tight
This sweater is nice quality and very warm, but it is terrible small and tight. Yes, I know it says slim fit, but this is more like ordering a size or two smaller. I've worn slim fit tops and never had one so much tighter (and shorter) than normal. This is the only LLB product I've had a problem with, so far. It's a shame, because I'd been looking for a full-zip commando for a long time.

Nice But Tight
Was surprised how tight the sweater was on me and a little shorter than I expected. Had to order a small since the arm lengths on Bean sweaters seemed to be pretty long for me on previous purchases. The sweater is nice however and I like the way it looks so I give it more positives than negatives at this point. We'll see how it works in the winter when I start to wear it in cold weather.

Small arm openings, not comfortable
I ordered a size up, as other reviewers recommended. This resulted in a correct size, but little else. The arm opening are too small, and make the sweater uncomfortable. Moreover, the wool is rather scratchy. Not recommended.

Small lightweight sweater
5'11, 195ish. Size XL. As others note: XL is the same as a standard size L, and not even a very L running L at that, although it is adequate if you wear a large. Unlike others claim, no, it is not a very heavy sweater at all, more medium. It is high quality, tightly knit, with little features like a front placket. No pockets, but you already knew that.

Exactly what I’d hoped for.
I ordered this to take to Spain for a Camino trip this fall. It seems very well made, is the weight/thickness I’d hoped for, and I like the styling. It is a bit “scratchier” than some merino wool I’ve worn, but softer than most wool sweaters. I tried it on a second time with a thin base layer and could not feel any scratchiness at all.

Disappointing quality
I bought this sweater for my husband in February 24. He loves it and wears it frequently. The material is thick and warm; it felt like the high quality that I used to get from LL Bean products but haven't seen in the past five years. However, last month - 13 months after purchase - one of the sleeves started to separate from the body. The seam was unraveling. We repaired it but I was very disappointed. I have sweaters from LL Bean that are 30 years old and are in great shape. Looks like LL Bean still has a serious quality control problems.

Looks great on my husband, can’t beat the quality
Great quality and lots like it was made for my husband. I purchased size medium in the blue and black. Because of the fabric trim the black actually looks like leather. Great effect. Washes nicely . Can’t beat LL Bean for quality.

Perfect
I've been looking for a full-zip wool sweater for a LONG time, this fills the bill perfectly. The trunk and sleeves could be a bit shorter, but then I'd have to accept a snugger fit. I prefer it this way.

All it's supposed to be
I love this sweater. I've always liked and valued the cut of the commando sweaters, but not being only offered in pullover. Often when I'm walking the woods I'd get too hot, and there was no relief from those other than to remove. This is far superior to even the quarter zip models in that respect. Same great fit as pullover, rugged, thick tightly woven wool, perfectly placed shoulder and forearm pads, and great quality workmanship and materials. I have zero complaints. I'm a bit over 6-ft tall, about 221 lbs, 50 inch chest, 37-inch waist, and the XXL-REG is a very good fit.
