This jacket is fine for wind or cold, but not helpful in the rain. The pockets are not waterproof and it is impossible to keep your hands dry and warm on a rainy day.

Could be better
Zipper should be 2-way. What is the point of all the snaps once the zipper is zipped?? Not worth the time. The pockets should be lined with flannel to make better handwarmers. My last Beans jacket was much better.

fits fairly well
Bought this for the occasional cold weather we have. Fits well except a bit tight over the abdomen. It is supposed to be an xxx and all my other xxx's fit well to slightly loose.

Very comfortable
Purchased this jacket for in between seasons. It’s perfect for it.
It’s warm enough for a cold and rainy day while repelling the rain.
There is enough room for a sweater. Pockets to burry your Hands in and to store stuff.

Travels Well
I was looking for a versatile coat for travel during the cold months. I wanted something lighter weight, warm, and water resistant, as I planned a trip to Dublin in later November (temps in 30s & 40s, with rainy & wind). This coat did wonderfully. It fits nicely over a medium layer and has good body coverage. It packs well and is easy to fit in a backpack for travel & availability. Just to quibble, I didn't like the brown zipper pulls, but easily swapped them for different ones.

OK as a secondary jacket.
A little small, not especially warm. Probably best for spring and fall.

Over rated and promoted
Jacket rated warmer, fall-winter. Not fall and for sure not winter in Western Pa. Maybe the insulation was left out of my jacket.. The jacket was not the quality of the LL BEAN which i have previously purchased or received as a gift. A very cheap product but high price because of the distributor Yep Going back

New fave
Was perfect for a chilly, rainy day in Ireland on vacation. Wish it packed smaller. Love the light weight factor, perfect for cooler days in Colorado.

Should Have Read The Description
Not water resistant and zipper isn't two-way making it hard to sit without unzipping or hiking up the jacket

Nice cool-weather jacket
I bought this a year ago to replace a vintage Army field jacket. Between the stow-away hood, 4+1 pockets, and color options, it seemed like a great option. Plus the insulation and water resistance make it more versatile. And it is a great jacket, perfect for fall, early spring, and parts of winter. With an extra layer it'll stand up to sub-zero temperatures.
The fit is so-so. There are two features they could alter to make it better. Add a drawstring at the waist, and move the zipper so it starts at the waist rather than the bottom of the jacket. I miss these features from the field jacket, and they are available on the Baxter State and Maine Warden parkas. The drawstring helps keep out wind and provides a more fitted look, moving the zipper to the waist makes it easier to sit while keeping the jacket zipped-up.

Proven winner.
Very pleased with this jacket. Just spent two weeks in Ireland where the weather lives up to its reputation of being changeable daily. Temps 40 - 65 most days with frequent damp and light rains, this jacket did the trick. Not for downpours, but as a go to travel jacket with multiple secure pockets, for weather from mild to heavy winds and brisk pre-winter chills, it’s a must for the outdoors traveler as well as for a quick run to the stores.

Unflattering cut. Did I get a lemon?
There is a lot to like about this jacket. The fabric seemed nice and there were plenty of pockets. However, the cut of the jacket was very odd and looked terrible. I have to wonder if I got a lemon or something. The bottom of the jacket was cut so that it slanted upwards from the back to the front and kid of ballooned out in the stomach area. I'm not sure who this could look good on, but certainly not me. I returned it and ended up buying the Bean softshell jacket, which was a great fit.

Expensive jacket Hype
The jacket is much TOO THIN and could be much more THICKER and can still be not bulky but warm. This jacket is restricted to early Autumn season wear and could be layered, but how many garments do you want to draped over your body? Because then you will look bulky for sure, how ironic to avoid the bulkiness.

Size, fit, quality.
I like the jacket, although at 6'2" and 200 lbs it's not a perfect fit. I really liked the look of it and its features online. But unfortunately my LL Bean store didn't carry it so I had to order it online. I'm a perfect 44L and I wear Large LL Bean button down shirts, but the L was too tight in the shoulders and too tight and short in the arms (although I liked the fit around the waist) so I returned it and ordered a XL. The XL fits well in the arms and shoulders but is too big around the waist. So I seem to be in between the two sizes. I thought about ordering the L Tall, but that just adds length, which I didn't need or want. I'm also a little disappointed that the hand pockets aren't lined. They're pretty flimsy and not comfortable. Also, the inside pocket zipper is too close to the main zipper, so it's hard to get to. Overall though I like the coat and kept the XL. Hope that helps.

Tight around shoulders
Well made good around waist and length of arms. Bought a size larger than usual; however, used as a car coat the coat is still tight around the shoulders when driving.

Great jacket with a smallish zipper
Really like the jacket, one small thing prevents a full five star rating. Thre zipper hardware is a bit small. Works perfectly, but I would appreciate a larger zipper to make it easier for my 76 year old fingers to thread it in the dark

Not a warm winter jacket
This is not a warm winter jacket for the winters of New England or the Midwest. Back that could have been my error when reading the description but both my brother and I thought that this would be a warm winter jacket. Very thin and more like a fall early spring or mild winter day

Gets it done here in New England
Warm, well made - not bulky it fits great and looks good too! I favor high collars to trap body warmth and this one's perfect. One of the best purchases I've made, there were no surprises or down sides, quite opposite it surpassed expectations.

Met my expectations
Very nice, well made “middle weight” jacket for cool or damp weather. Based on other reviews I ordered one size larger than I normally do and that turned out to be right for me.

Great value for the money.
This is a wonderful travel jacket just like LL Bean says it is. Layering makes it a warmer jacket like other customers related to . It is a quality all around jacket in all weather conditions as far as I am concerned. If you want a warmer winter jacket LL Bean has other selections like I have purchased from them over the years.
