Good Shoes with quirks
I like these shoes. You get a lot for your money, but they aren't without flaws.
First the good. They are solid, comfortable, unobtrusive derby shoes that should go with a wide variety of clothes. Break in for me was minimal. These were comfortable out of the box. The outsole is probably part of that because it is very soft. This shoe also has a very thick, removable insole which adds a lot of cushion, too. Goodyear welted shoes from a reputable brand for $150 (or less, I paid $130) are hard to find. These have a rubber slip sole, which gives you the option of an affordable cemented outsole replacement while still maintain sole waterproofness. The leather upper is good, water resistant and should last a long time. These are the shoes that I wear everyday inside and out and I enjoy them.
Not everything is perfect, which I expect from a goodyear welted shoe at this price. The laces are trash. Just get new ones right away. They will break soon, anyway. The goodyear welting is 360 degrees- nice. That stitch does not go all the way through the outsole. There is an additional stitch that goes through the outsole, but only for about 30 degrees at the toe. Not a big deal, but not something I have not seen before. The shoes run large - for me 1/2 size. The insoles are very cushiony, but for they are are too big for the shoes. They raise my foot too high, especially at the heel. I replaced them. Last, the soles are very soft. The same thing that makes them comfortable, makes them wear out quickly.
I would definitely buy these again. There isn't anything nearly as good anywhere close to this price.

Outstanding Shoes, But Need Stronger Laces
I bought these sturdy, good-looking shoes less than two months ago, and I am almost completely satisfied with these sturdy, good-looking shoes, including their attractive design, solid construction, and wear-resistant tread. However, my one disappointment are the shoe laces, which quickly began to fray, stretch, and break; in addition, Bean does not carry replacement laces (but will reimburse the documented purchase of new laces from another retailer).

Shoe Laces Shredding After 2-3 Weeks
I really like the shoes. The laces are shredding though after a very short time. I need to replace the laces with something more robust.

Great shoes! Weird insoles
I was looking for a quality leather shoe with a leather midsole and Vibram lugged sole. The Bucksports hit the nail on the head. They are great looking shoes that should last forever, and could most likely be resoled if necessary. However...the insoles had strange raised areas at the heal and ball areas that made them feel strange to walk on. I replaced them with a pair of flat, gel insoles and the result was so much better comfort and a much better walking experience.

Good Shoes; Too Narrow
I like the style and the construction, but the shoes were too narrow for my feet, despite the fact that they were labeled as wide and I wear a wide.

These are hearty robust shoes. Sturdy and handsome. The leather is first class. The support is sure footed. I’m very pleased with them.

Good shoe overall
Shoe is good. Not as comfortable on longer walk as I hoped. But traction is great. Good look and waterproof so far

Good, but caveats
This shoe feels solid and looks great. However, there is something dimensionally wrong with it as it presses heavily on my top foot that is painful. Also, it caused a blister on my heel which I'm willing to take in the act of breaking it in. I suspect the leather itself needed to be more supple to allow for variances in feet size and am just hoping after a rather lengthy break in period it will work.

Nice Shoes
I normally wear size 10. That is what I bought and these fit well. Maybe a little extra room, but no complaints. These also have a little extra lift and probably add an inch and a half to your height. Also, they’re quite comfortable.

Stiff shoes loosen up quickly.
Really nice, well made shoes. Out of the box they are incredibly stiff, but they start to loosen up in only a few days.

Incorrectly Sized
The shoes are made of superb materials, and the craftsmanship also looks good. Unfortunately, the size I always wear in shoes is way too large for my feet in this shoe. I’ll be returning or exchanging for a smaller size, hoping for a proper fit.

cheap tires
LL Bean's Bucksport shoe suffers under the tired quality issue found across much active footwear offered today: companies use cheap materials. It's great that a LL Bean markets Derby-style shoes in wide measurements, true to size. However, they skimped on the outer sole--don't get me started on the laces. The treads last 9 mos to a year max--sort of like buying cheap tires. Don't do what others and I did, buying new Bucksports after they quickly wear down. Instead of buying essentially disposable shoes at $150 a pop, you could purchase custom Derby-styled kicks from Nicks or Whites. I wish I had done that.

I must not know how to tie a shoelace
I have now bought these three times. Plus one time for the Stonington shoe. EVERY SINGLE SHOELACE ON ALL OF THESE SHOES HAVE NOT STAY TIED.
I received the shoes around 1030 this morning. I put them on and tied the shoelaces of both shoes. By 230 I have retied both shoelaces twice, one of them within a five minute interval.
I remember with a previous pair, I was retying the laces five and six times a day. I calculated the time it took to tie one lace, and multiplied. It came to over a week's worth of shoelace tying.
I notice in the recent reviews no one is complaining about that aspect of the shoelaces (they did three years ago) but on the first page of reviews people are complaining about them breaking. I guess I was lucky as with the previous pair, it took about five months for them to break.
I replaced the shoelaces of that previous pair with a very cheap set of laces (the old fashioned kind of fabric with a hollow center). They lasted a full year AND always stayed tied.
My only conclusion of all of this is either LL Bean never reads reviews or doesn't care about them; or has a thirty year contract for these shoes with these shoelaces that they are committed to; or, as I think is the most plausible: are putting the looks of the shoelaces as having more importance over their function.
Oh, and by the way, the shoes are great. But they now cost $60 more than when I first bought them. I may start to weigh buying shoes for half the price more frequently, and with any luck, they might have the cheaper style of shoelace that actually works.

The timeless classic for casual Friday.
This is probably the fourth pair my husband has purchased over the years. He loves them and when they wear out, he buys another.
