Well made shoe
Very comfortable and well made shoe. Can wear for many occasions and weather. I'm a big fan of the grey color as it can be worn with almost anything.

Great looking shoe!!!!
I loved the look of this shoe. The problem is that it was too snug over the top of the foot. I do not wear a wide shoe, so I don't know why this was too tight. But it seemed very well made and nice to look at.

Nice boot
I do love the boot, but I agree with other reviewers that the ankle is stiff. It seems to be improving with use. Very comfortable though, and I like the retro desert boot feel.

Disappointed!
Must say I’m very disappointed with these boots. There is absolutely no arch support, and the sole is completely flat. I’m hoping some arch support inserts may help. For the price, I expected way more than the boots I got.

Great Boots
Great boots, love the gray suede. Would really have liked the Navy color had they been on sale too. Sadly they fit well because they were more narrow than most medium width shoes, except were just a tad short with my medium weight socks. Thinking maybe a half size up would be better, and could take up the extra room elsewhere with the great thick socks?

Quality if Stiff Suede
These shoes are made of high quality but stiff leather which digs in across the top of the toes until they are broken in. I got the blueish grey color with pairs with blue jeans very nicely. The patterned flannel on the inside goes all the way up to the top of the boot so where there are white lines in the flannel, that disrupts the grey gray leather around the top.

Beautiful color, nice stiching and laces
The color is - chef’s kiss, delectable, just spot on. Even the color of the soles isn't bad, not at all, I’m even warming to the soles. (It’s difficult to get shoe soles right) The color of the shoelaces matches and is also great. I just wish the laces came with an optional elastic version to really bring the fit together over top of foot. The eyelets are good so far. The inside with the flannel plaid is attractive and cozy.
Enter my critique.
I have been on a chukka search and safari for the greater part of Winter (2023-2024). I’ve tried women’s and men’s. This LL Bean chukka is, among the new shoes I’ve been looking at, among the best, visually speaking. I’ve been looking at Spanish chukkas at Comfort One (OnFoot in men’s; C.O do not sell women’s), and visually this Stonington chukka is more attractive. So I ordered them, and last night, I slipped them on. Right away, I noticed what other reviewers (of either this chukka or another LL Bean chukka) have pointed to, which is the awkward stiffness at the top of the shoe, around the ankle area. For me, the question is, will this improve and/or will I get used to it? For now, I’m thinking there is a good chance (not 100%) that I will adapt to it. I can’t quite analyze things well enough to put the whole problem-picture together, but what seems to be the case is that the back half of the shoe is kind of heavy and clunky – there is no heel hug – so I feel like I walk like a cowboy sometimes and that I almost have to step over a 2 inch block with each step.
The last pair of truly great chukkas I experienced was in 2003 – they were Joan and Davids and truly they must have been among the last shoes that great company ever made. I still have them, I still wear them – that’s what a great shoe is about; it lasts. But over the years, I needed a re-fresh and searched for other chukkas, and stumbled upon some Aerosole chukkas (this was somewhere between 2010 and 2015) and noticed that they hugged my foot so nicely and despite their slenderness, didn’t bother my bunions so I decided to go on and buy two pairs, one in black and one in this reddish or root beer color. But they were nowhere near as attractive as the Joan and David’s (also in red/rust/rootbeer). But they are more slender and fit better than the LL Beans. I still have the aerosoles, too, but haven’t bothered to resole them like I did with the Joan + David’s.
Don’t really know where I’m going with this rambling overly long critique, but for me, this is not quite a hundred dollar shoe – maybe $70, max. If I had to guess, I would say, the material could have been more supple and soft in order to really bring the shoe around the heel to fit better and over the top of the foot. The way it is now, it’s more like a foot scaffold. This is my first full day wearing the shoe (I still have not decided beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am going to keep them), so of course all opinions are subject to change. Even for the better. Of course, I am only wearing them inside.
Finally, my conclusion is that there’s a reason people exist with last names of Shoemaker. There used to exist people who would make you – that is, YOU – a shoe. A shoe for you, so you knew it would be perfect.
If this review is too picayune for you, sorry – I’m just … passionate about things sometimes, and the older we get, the importance of mundane things like shoes increases by a lot. Kudos for LL Bean even carrying chukkas - but please keep working on the craftsmanship!

Good choice
Purchased a half size up so that I could wear warm socks. These are still new and a bit tight but very cute. I like the look with jeans and casual wear. The gray color goes with everything. Overall good purchase.

Nice Boots
Nice boots but they do require breaking in. Many people have said that they are narrow. I have narrow feet and they are a little wide on me. I solved that with thicker socks. I wish the foot bed was not slippery

A not so comfortable boot.
These boots weren’t comfortable. Lining was too thin and did not provide enough comfort around the ankle. Lots of rubbing. Also foot bed to thin. Not what I expected. Good looking however.

Go-to winter casual shoe
I really like these comfortable shoe/boots. The grey goes with everything, so I kept these and returned the tan. The 10 1/2 fit is great for my wide forefoot, skinny rear-foot, and I can wear a variety of different sock thicknesses.

Great Looking Boot
This is a nice looking boot. I normally wear a 10-1/2 Wide so went with size 11 B as recommended, but it did not work. Was hoping style would allow for B width instead of a W width, but definitely need a wide width. It was too tight across front of boot.

Beautiful brown shoes
Bought these for my mom. She bought her normal size and they fit great. The shoe is well constructed, sturdy but still flexible. Really gorgeous brown with soft flannel lining.

High Five for these Boots!
These boots are one of the most comfortable I have put on my feet. There is no break in period required. The size (7 M) fits perfectly and I love the color (gray). Everything went smooth from the online ordering process, to checkout, shipping and delivery thanks to L.L. Bean customer service. These boots are a winner!

Fits better over time
Initially, I ordered my usual shoe size (10) and found that as I walked the upper part of the shoe had too much movement and was stiff on the top part of my foot. Customer service was helpful in assisting me in returning that shoe and ordering the next size down. The 9.5 fit better but still felt stiff and had slight movement, but over time the leather has softened and it fits well.

Stonington Chukka - give them time.
I thought it was true to size. Initially the upper part of the shoe rubbed against my ankle bone. But, as I wear them more & the leather softens, this is becoming less of an issue.
