Very bright
Just know that this lantern is very bright — for us, it’s too bright to have in front of us, even on the lowest setting. It’s fine as a light to place in back of you to cast light. The 3 large batteries also make it fairly heavy, which is also fine if it is stationary (and makes it less prone to tipping). I think it would be rather heavy, though, to take backpacking. I didn’t read the fine print when ordering and didn’t realize it would take these large batteries.

Great product!
I live in Florida, so the lamps are for when power goes out during storms. During this hurricane season, one of my two lamps stopped working and the other one is just cheap and a pain to use so I wanted to replace them both. Thankfully, I haven't had to use these yet, but they are just what I was looking for and much better and easier to use than my old ones!

We Are Talking BRIGHT Here!
This lantern is incredibly bright. I had to use the sleeve that was provided to filter the brightness. I could not look directly at it. It will be great for going out to get firewood this winter, or to sit on the counter when the electricity goes out. I bought several as Christmas gifts.

L.L. Bean lantern
There was a tornado in Cleveland a few weeks ago. I was without power for five days. I don’t know what I would’ve done without my L.L. Bean lantern. It lit up the room at night. In fact, I bought my second one so that I could have one upstairs and downstairs should that happen again.

LL Bean Trailblazer 400 Lantern
The LL Bean Trailblazer 400 Lantern is my back-up light source during power outages (which are becoming more frequent). One lantern is adequate to light a room, so I have several in backup to five rooms. The light they produce is adequate for reading and other tasks while power is out.

Brilliant light when you need it.
I purchased the lantern for power outages. One night my bedroom light fell off the table and went black. I used the lantern and it gave off brilliant light. It worked out well and I was able to replace the bulb.

Disappointed.
This lantern is not nearly as bright as I expected based on other reviews. I have a small, rechargeable lantern rated at less than half the lumens of this one that provides more usable light. The diffuser bag does help to spread the light some, but the area of illumination is not great for the size and weight of the lantern. It will do for power outages but don't expect it to light up a campsite.

LLB Trailblazer 400 Lantern
This small lantern puts out an amazing amount of light! I live in WNC mountains and we loose power a few times a year. This lives on my emergency shelf along with batteries and a princess phone. I will probably use this lantern on the deck for cooking out also. It comes with a ‘bag’ that diffuses the light that will be useful.

L.L. Bean Trailblazer 400 Lantern
Have owned 3 LL Bean lanterns for years. However, one just stopped working, so I bought two of these thinking they are as good as the old ones. Brought them home to load them with batteries, the inside of the cap that screws to the bottom of the lantern to load & unload the batteries were broken in both lanterns. Very disappointed with L.L. Bean, as I feel the quality of their merchandise have suffered.

Great light - dimmer bag is good feature!
Super bright, with a good selection of levels to pick. Seems sturdy enough, well protected. The dimmer bag helps a lot. I didn't see anything on the packaging mentioning where the dimmer bag (carrying bag) was, so be sure to open the card box at the bottom, to find the bag. I think one reviewer mentioned not getting one, and I think they may not have seen it tucked under the cardboard flap.
