Disappointed
This is the third shotgun case I have purchased from LL Bean over a number of years. This one is patterned after a rifle case with space for a scope, not what was expected. Also, the pouch just has a strap and buckle closure, not the 3 way system it had before of a magnetic snap and hook and loop attachment also it lacks the retaining loops in the pouch to secure screw in chokes . Oh yes! its $40 plus more expensive. Didn't ever expect LL Bean to play that game.

Gun case
My wife bought this case for me 2 Christmases ago. It is well made. In reality it is not a true shot gun case and there is a lot of room for your shotgun to move in the stock and action area. This shotgun case and the rifle case are the same design only difference is the lengths offered. If this case was design for a shotgun only it would be an outstanding case for your shotgun.

Very nice design without loud corporate logos. Solid quality feel and weight. Shoulder sling is helpful. Plenty of padding to protect gun. Fits a rifle with scope just barely; rifle version was out of stock. Outside pocket is tight fit for two 30 round mags, but room to spare inside at this length.

It’s a scoped rifle case, not a shotgun case
As others have said, this is a scoped rifle case. If it was cut properly to shotgun dimensions it would be a wonderful waxed cotton shotgun case but it is not. Shotguns will rotate and shift in the case making it awkward for carrying. They will end up on their side and feel uncomfortable when carrying.

It IS a scoped rifle case. Not a shotgun slip. So be aware of that. If that is what you want, then great. If you want a shotgun slip, it will be too big. Great case otherwise.

More size than needed
This really is a scoped rifle case, and a very nice case if it happens to come in the length you need. Otherwise, if you are looking for a shotgun case for a svelte doublegun to nestle into without being taken apart, this case will be too roomy through the action and stock, and you should anticipate that the gun will be able to move within the case. If a perfect fit is not a concern, the case can certainly do double duty, switching between shotgun and scoped rifle as needed.

Missed the mark by a mile
read the reviews and thought that LLB had finally got it right with their shotgun case. I have the previous model and other than the lack of a handle, thought it well made from good materials. Ordered one of the new models, and am thoroughly disappointed. Not sure why, but this is more of a scoped rifle case than a case for a shotgun. My 12 gauge over/under swims in this. Out of curiosity put in a scoped Weatherby .300 mag. it fits. the case is WAY too tall/wide. Not sure who designed this, or who approved the design, but they clearly did not have over/under shotguns in mind. May be appropriate for an old Browning A5, but that's about it. Returned, and won't trust LLB again for hunting gear. Too bad.

Excellent Case
First, the case is slightly darker than the picture. The contrast between the leather and cotton isn't as much as in the picture on the website, but it absolutely looks fantastic. The case itself is just very well done. The brass is solid, the leather feels and looks very nice. The stitching is well done everywhere. One of the nicest things about this case is the zipper guard. On the bottom, there is a padded strip that runs the entire length of the zipper, protecting the gun from being scratched while cased. In summary, the case is just very well put together, and it just looks the part.
Measure your gun before you buy. Ideally, you would like it to be snug so your gun isn't moving around. If you need to fill a few inches of space, you can always throw a t-shirt in front of the gun to act as a buffer.

Major upgrade over previous shotgun case
As the title suggests, this is a major upgrade over LL Bean's Maine Guide Waxed Canvas Shotgun Case. The absurd middle brass ring on top is removed, replaced with a handle, but it keeps the removable strap. Secondly, the previous case had a faux buckle for the side pocket that was actually just a magnet. This one has a legitimate buckle that is fastened with leather, and it also seals with velcro. Lastly, the zipper goes the entire length of the case, and the design of the case makes it resemble a scoped rifle case, which I think is awesome, because it will make it really hard, if not impossible for your beloved shotgun to make contact with the zipper. I am happy with my purchase!
