Our go to base layer for skiing and sledding
I am from Colorado and our family returns a few times a year for skiing. This long underwear is our favorite because of the built in balaclava and the wide temperature range it is comfortable. I got jealous of the kid's tops so I bought an XL for myself. Now my husband is the jealous one. The balaclava is comfortable under our ski helmets. We wear them as the only layer under our ski pants and coat and have been comfortable in temperatures ranging from the high teens to the high 30s. On the warmer days the balaclava is not in the way if you push it back off your head. We love these!
My 85#, 5', 10 YO daughter has a medium, my 120#, 5'5", 15 YO son has a large, and I am 135#, 5'7" and the XL fits me well.

Good, but bummer zipper design
My son likes this shirt a lot, it’s warm and comfortable. The zipper isn’t well designed though- it frequently gets stuck on the fabric in the low position, it doesn’t have a little ‘zipper garage’ to tuck into, so this is a bit frustrating and unfortunately keeps happening.

Streamline fit and look
This sweatshirt runs true to size. It’s tight fitting and very warm. I bought one last year and passed it down to my next son in line. I purchased a larger size for my older son this year. You will need to layer, because if they are wearing to school they will have to remove it due to the warmth it provides. Awesome for outdoor activity.

Picky kid wants to wear this every day
Please make smaller kid and adult versions plus extra colors!
This kid is SO picky but he loves this so much that he will dig it out of the laundry basket. :)
Love the fabric weight and feel, love the thumb holes and the hood. Kid is not exactly husky but super solid, has shoulders and a chest like a linebacker, and the size was on point. Also love the balaclava which can double as a mask when needed.
Back to buy another, plus the next size up in case it gets discontinued.
Only drawback is that our younger son wants one but you do not make his size. Mom and dad want one too! And more colors would be awesome as well.

Wicked Warm Expedition Balaclava Top, Kids’
This must be the most comfortable cold-weather shirt I have ever worn. I could wear it every day. It is the ideal base layer for skiing, especially with the hood to go under my helmet and the neck gator to keep my neck and face warm. It washes up nicely. I generally wear a Women’s size Small or Kid’s Large or XLarge. In this shirt the L14-16 was the better fit. I love the color.

Perfect winter base layer.
I was looking for a turtleneck for my son to wear skiing and I came across this shirt instead. It is the first perfect shirt for skiing and playing outside in the snow. The built in balaclava it’s great and the hood fits under his ski helmet for added warmth. I would buy more of them if they were in stock.

We really like these. My kids have never been comfortable with larger Balaclava hats, but these were perfect for skiing, especially the thin hood underneath their ski helmets for extra warmth. Very soft and well sized.

Love it!
All the other women reviewers were correct: the xl wicked warm up fits a smaller woman quite well. I live in Montana, and while xc touring in the mountains, I've come to depend on this top. Funny thing is, i initially bought another top for my 4 yr old grandson in Idaho. When i saw how well the hoody fit under his parka hoody, with hat atop the hoody (and built in balaclava!) ... i just had to follow his cozy factor. Uh, and yes ... these should be made for women and men!

My picky toddler who only wears tshirts loves this hoodie. The hood and face mask cause him to believe it is a ninja shirt. The mask often feels wet on the outside but the inside is made of a soft fleece that seems to wick the wetness away so he can wear it for hours and it doesn’t effect his skin or picky sensibility. Teen also loves how soft his is.

Picky 10-year-old approved!
My 10-year-old is very picky about ski gear - can't be too thick or bunchy. This top worked great and the built-in balaclava is perfect for when face coverings are required inside the lodge. We skied last weekend in 0-15 degree weather and it + a base layer + jacket kept his body pretty warm but he did have to wear an additional neck gaiter over the balaclava to keep his neck & face warm. Glad we bought two!

Nice look - tough fit
Warm and soft. Kid loves the matching pants but the Balaclava Top is an awkward fit - the size that's a little large on him is still too tight for him around the neck/mouth to wear to protect his face. Hanging on to it because I'm hoping the hood will come in handy on really cold days but a crew neck would've been more versatile for us.

Not for slim boys
My son likes this shirt a lot. He wears it to run in the cold weather multiple times per week. He layers it with another long underwear top. The only thing I don’t like is that it is far too wide for him and flaps in the wind. A smaller size would be far too short in the arms. It would fit a husky boy better. I wouldn’t call it “expedition weight either. More like mid weight.

I found this to be a warm and soft layer. It has this face covering attached that comes pretty handy on very cold days (or if you forgot your mask lol) I ordered two. Wish they had more colors.

Great shirt
My kids love these shirts! The balaclava and hood were initially a fun novelty and a nice additional feature in day-to-day wear, but we just took the kids skiing on a cold day where intense snowmaking left us all encrusted with ice from head to toe after each run. These shirts completely saved the day. The hood was great under their helmets, and with the hood, balaclava, and goggles, every inch of skin was covered. The kids stayed comfy and warm, faring much better than their parents!

Cozy!
Confession: I am 49 years old and realize this is a kids' item. BUT, I am on the petite side and most LL Bean items for women are too big for me and don't fit quite right, so I often buy sweatshirts and outdoor gear in kids sizes. This is going to be a great piece to wear under my jacket this winter. It's soft, cozy and the added neck liner will be wonderful on cold days walking my dog. Since it's styled for kids, it's a little boxy and not "form fitting" as women's styles are, but it's very comfortable and I know it will serve its purpose for a long VT winter. Great quality fabric and soft lining.

Warm and comfy
This was the second shirt I bought for my grandson because he loved the first one so much he wanted to wear it everyday! If they had more colors , I would buy more. He lives in the cold Pacific NW and loves the way it keeps his face warm. Great style too!
