We love to stalk the beaches and rocks of Maine with surf-casting rod in hand in search of big striped bass. No matter the species you're after, this surf rod offers the technical features needed to tackle the surf zone, a place notorious for putting gear to the test. Best of all, it comes with an unbeatable price.

  • Two-piece construction for easy transport and storage.
  • EVA/rubber handle for a sure grip and excellent durability.
  • High-modulus graphite blank with medium-fast action.
  • First guide is reversed to prevent braided line from looping over and snagging.
  • Low-profile guides let line shoot quickly for optimum distance.
  • Extended handle creates a powerful fulcrum for maximum distance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bean surf rod Great performance for the price, I put a 4000 size reel on it and found it was a little small in hindsight I would have got something bigger

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 8ft 2020 surf rod READ THIS REVIEW 8ft 2020 surf rod -Rod is a 50/50 split with no eyes on the lower section -Bottom eye is mounted upside down. YES it’s supposed to be like that -upper section fits over lower Those were all questions I had before I ordered it and could not find any answers. Rod quality looks good. Like it should for the price I have a Daiwa coastal salt pro that is very similar to this. The eyes and reel seat have no names on them on the LL Bean. The Diawa has identical eyes and reel seat that are branded Fuji. These rods are very similar but not the same. I have not fished with the rod yet but it feels good with it balancing out Perfect with a reel on it. It’s definitely worth the $100 I will update when I catch a fish on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent rod. Do not be fooled by the low price.... this rod has a solid construction mixed with the durability of what you would expect in a surf rod. I’ve used this along with a VS while using wetsuit in MTK. Held up perfectly. My main rod is a Lami 11’ For heavy surf but this has held up well under conditions my wife yells at me for going out in. Very pleased. Excellent rod seat.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Super fast delivery, not the best rod though I’ll start by saying that I just unboxed the rod and I haven’t had a chance to even tie on a lure to it yet. So these are just some first impressions. I have the 10’ rod. As Always, been delivered superfast on the order and it was packaged nicely in the web ordering process is easy. Now for the rod. I like the aesthetics of it. It’s simple and there is an much clutter like logos or flashy stickers all over it. The handle is a nice texture that is firm but grippy and it is a good diameter for surf fishing in the wet or cold. The butt end is rounded hard plastic that could be jammed into the sand while bait fishing or held against your waist while fighting a fish. The handle was shrink wrapped and when removed it offgassed quite a bit. I’d recommend letting all the glues cure for a bit longer before these are packaged. The reel seat is utilitarian, but seems to be made well with hard plastics and a lock washer. It holds my penn battle II 5000 nicely. With the reel mounted and the rod assembled, the weight balance was right in the upper grip section. I cannot comment on the action of the rod yet but I will update after the stripers show up. Now for the problem bit. And it really is just one thing. But it’s a big thing. The first guide is mounted upside down! It took me a second to catch it, but it is certainly the wrong way. Going back to the original web page for the rod on the bean site, you can see that the first guide is the wrong way in the product photo there too! So this may not just be a one off issue. I’ve worked on rods before, so I will likely just cut and flip the guide on mine (and maybe increase the size a bit), but this is not something I should have to do when I get a new rod. Without this issue, it would be a 5 star product. Anyway, not sure if I can recommend the rod with that issue, there is just too much competition to deliver stuff like that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from surf rod the rod seems well built, but on the 8ft. half of one section is handle I thought the handle would be in proportion to the length of the rod. I like the 8ft because where I fish I don't need to make long cast the longer the rod the harder the fight. my halibut rods only 5ft this 8ft should be good for salmon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LL Bean 9' Surf Series Rod Arrived within 3 days of ordering. Rod has nice action and I managed to cast an entire 125 yard shot of 15 Lb. Spider (Braided) Line from the spool of a Penn (American Made) 710. This was with a 3 oz. sinker. Rod is very light weight with a long butt and perfect balance at the reel seat. The Penn 710 weighs about 14 oz. I plan to use this combo for beach fishing for Striped Bass, Bluefish and Fluke.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Initial impressions Initial inspection of the rod provides a nice, quality, light rod, with a skinny profile. I purchased the 10', 1-4oz lure, 15-30lb line, Surf Rod. This is my first rod with "low profile" guides and was not prepared for how narrow the top two eyelets would be, so I need to purchase some really narrow and strong leader clips so that I don't have to cut my leader after every trip and then re-tie a new one before every trip. Minus one star for narrow eyelets and not having even used it yet, but first impression is very good. Giving it the initial test run at the Cape this weekend and I'll update my review then....
