Men's Padded Collar Bean Boot

Rated 5 out of 5 by DCSuburbs from Just purchased, yet to test I recently received these and have yet to test them outdoors in wet weather, so I will limit this review to the fit and design. With respect to the design, well, you know what you're getting so there is not much to say there. With respect to the fit, for a person who perpetually has issues in terms of sizing -- I'm frequently in between sizes in both length and width -- these are perfect. For some perspective: In running shoes (Mizuno or Saucony), I wear a 11W. In most dress shoes (e.g., most Allen Edmonds; LL Bean Classic Penny Loafer), I wear a 10.5E. In the LL Bean Grand Lake Bison Penny, I wear a 11D. In Shearling Lined Bean Boot, I wear a 10W. In these, I wear a 10 regular. All in all, barring some functionality issues that may arise in the future (leaking, etc.), I am very happy with this purchase.

The delivery was super fast. The fit, size tens, were more then adequate. I actually where a size 11, but the size 10s allow enough room for thick socks without loosing comfort. Very happy about this purchase.

Initially, I ordered 11M's, per catalog. instructions. These proved slightly narrow/tight with light socks. I ordered a second pair, size 12M, and these fit well with heavy socks, so I have 2 pairs, one for summer, one for winter. It's only money. Thank goodness for the coupons/gift certificates Good looking boot. Been wearing B. boots for more than 45 years..

When I was in the military, I would always ask stateside family members to send me a pair. But no one understood what it was I wanted. When I completed my military career and returned to my home state, I found LLBean Website and there were the hand-sewn made to order (Duck Shoes) 6" Padded Collar Bean Boots that I had been wanting. I spoke to several LLBeam representatives to try and determine the size to order due to them running a bit larger than normal basic shoes. I wear a size 12 in Nike shoes; LLBean representatives recommended that I order a size 11 Med. Last September, I placed my first order with LLBean for the shoes, size 11 Med, and was told, that if there was any sizing issues, just to let them know and they could remake them for me to ensure I received a good fit. Today, 10th November 2015, my hand-sewn, made to order shoes arrived. They fit very well, were very comfortable on my feet, flexible, not a hard rubber nor stiff leather. I decided to give them their first real test run ~ Grocery Shopping. I am happy to say, the shoes were very comfortable, not tight at all on my feet, nor loose either; Just RIGHT. There was a CARD inside the box that said "JESSICA" was the employee that hand-sewed my LL Beam Boots for me. Thank You for making these for me... Now that I am sure of my size for such Handmade items... will be placing other orders soon again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by HappyHawkeye from Great Boots! First off, you should order these immediately as they tend to be back ordered. That says it all, if they are back ordered they must be good. Believe what all the other reviews say about fit, order a size smaller than your normal size. You will still have plenty of room for thick socks. The day I got these we had pouring down rain all day. Wore these to my sons concert, walking through every puddle I could find in the parking lot. My feet were dry and comfortable. My pants weren't though. I have only worn these twice so far, El Niño has provided war weather so far here, but I anticipate opportunities to wear them a lot soon. Can't wait!

This set has the nicest supple leather that is amazingly tough and comfortable. I intend to use these mostly for walking the fields and woods around my home but will also wear them pheasant hunting in S. Dakota this year. These are, and have always been, great boots. I actually look forward to wearing them.

These were stiffer and probable would have "broken in with time". After about an hour of wear first time, my ankles were abraded on both sides and no socks seemed to help. Bummer, because I love their products. RH

Rated 5 out of 5 by quirky1 from Long awaited and needs to be broken in Boots: Straight out of the box, the leather smelled and felt wonderful. It was a little stiff to put on at first but after a little wiggling, they slid on easily. The leather upper of the boot does not stretch or pull like fabric running shoes so if you have swollen feet or super thick socks it may take some wiggling. I was worried about the size, especially because of the sizing videos/commentary about these boots state to order a size smaller. I ordered my size based on the European size of my FiveFinger/and Merrel shoes. The boots fit loosely with thin socks so my heel does rise a bit when walking but with thicker socks, the extra space is needed for ventilation. The box came with a card about the "rule of thumb" stating the extra space helps your foot breathe and to measure by placing your thumb at where your toe hits the boot to the boot tip. I am still breaking in the boots because the leather is quite stiff along the tongue and laces. If I lace too tight, it will rub the front of my foot so it is taking a little getting used to and I am slowly working them to fit my feet. Customer Service: Excellent. I ordered these boots back in January and specifically chose the men's wine colored boots because they had the shortest delivery date. There were several delays in manufacturing and shipping, with numerous emails re-estimating the shipping date. At one point, an email stated LLBean was legally required to ask if I still wanted the boots because they were so delayed! LLBean was wonderful with communicating the delays and the boots arrived at the end of March.

(Yes we are still married.)I got an email about these bad boys being added to the line up with the addition of the padded top and 20% off for one day only. Went to the site and saw the dynamite color combo of olive green leather with the orange soles. Let me say they look even better on!!! All other Bean Boots were on back order for 5 or 6 weeks after Christmas but these were available for immediate shipment. To make a short story even longer- the padded tops are something I didn't even know I needed or wanted! Would probably not even consider going back to the originals. As many of you know these are quality crafted and what the padding does is add even more comfort! I actually get compliments on there looks - from other dudes even. Get the padded tops and you will have truly happy feet!!!

This pair is 6 inch non-insulated, that have been great for light snow , rain & just all around ware. Good quality as are most everything I purchased from Bean. Been a customer for more years then I can remember.

I bought my first pair when I lived in The Hudson Valley NY, that was in1991. Now that I'm living in the rainy North West, I just received my new pair of 6" Red Wine/Black Padded Collar Boots. Excellent fit(ordered one size down) and the padded collar really make's the boot comfortable. I was surprised to receive them earlier than the arrival date. I'd like to thank "Diane" and the rest of the Bean Boot Team for crafting the best Boot for the price, right here in the USA!

These boots provided hours of comfort while climbing ladders and tree trimming, beach combing and doing yard work on the first day they were worn! I will soon buy an insulated pair for cold weather.

The wine color is very close to what is online, and the leather almost seems a little bit thicker and nicer than the normal 6 inch boots which I also have. They are a great shoe and I would love to continue to buy more! Great work L.L. Bean, as always!

Rated 5 out of 5 by jdh5785 from Roomy, Warm, Stylish It is the classic Bean Boot, this is actually my first pair, the original boot was back ordered until late April when I went to order. Then I came across this version with the padded collar. They were in stock so I ordered. I called customer service to discuss fit because I was not sure what size to select, the boots run big. Watch the video and/or chat with someone online or over the phone to guide you. Mine are roomy but not so big that I feel like they are going to fall off...really comfortable with a thick sock. They only came in the 6" and I was worried the 8" would be too tall, as I have fairly big calf muscles. However the 6" are perfect for my first pair but I will for sure be ordering a taller boot next winter for those days when the snow is extra deep! The boots are warm, especially with a thicker sock. I would suggest determining how you will wear them. If they are purely for your outdoor activities/trekking to and from the car in the winter you may opt for an insulated boot. The non-insulated keep my feet warm with a thick pair of socks but I have not spent extended time outdoors in them either. I wear mine throughout my day at work or running errands and they can get a little hot with a thick sock on but I just have learned to keep an extra pair of socks at work. For the price this is a great boot, well made, classic style, very happy to be part of the bean boot family!
